Cooking for new parents — and everything that represents
I will never forget the feeling after a good friend (and fellow mum) came over in the early newborn days with bags of groceries, warming meals and snacks. She came, not with an expectation of newborn cuddles, or to be hosted, but to care for us.
We felt held — from the moment she walked in the door — and that continued as we worked our way through the food left by her in the days that followed.
That’s how I want all new parents to feel. And not just in those early weeks — but later on also, when people either assume they are all sorted now (or they just forget entirely), when their baby has really woken up to the world, and the exhaustion sets in. I want those parents to have the weight lifted, and to have their struggle (and love) understood.
